Contrary Mary

Mary, a name revered by religious people all over the world. One would think a child with this name would be a reverent wonderful child. Not so! For most of my life I have been known as Contrary Mary. I have always wondered if I would have had a father in my life if I would have been different. Mom always said we were to poor to have a father. I knew I had a father once since I did remember him, he was tall with dark brown eyes. He was as handsome as I was cute. My brother Ed was named after the father we didn't have because we were so poor. We lived on a farm with my mother's parents. Have you ever been on a farm in the fiftys? Life is nothing like what we enjoy today. Running water, indoor bathrooms, animals to eat that you don't have to kill first. I remember hating to go to the outhouse, since you had to run past the chickens and get in the outhouse before the rooster got in with you and tried to peck you. Bless my Grandma, she got in the outhouse with the rooster and she beat the heck out of him with a broom.
